5-20-20 Activities

Hi 2nd Graders! The sun is supposed to shine today! I hope you are able to spend some time outside. I sure do miss all of you!

Opinion Writing:
Remember that this week you are writing only one high quality piece of writing.  Each day will focus on a different part so that you can put more time and effort into each part!

*Today you will  focus on writing the middle of your opinion piece of writing! (**Please do not go ahead.**)

  1. Re-watch the video of Miss Mikle showing you the difference between “Weak and Awesome Middles” of opinion writing. (Make sure you make this apply to our new prompt.)

  1. Reread the Hook/Lead and opinion statement that you wrote yesterday to this prompt: What is your opinion about something that could be a positive change at Suamico?

  1. Now you need to support your opinion with reasons and details/evidence. *Remember, your middle needs at least two paragraphs.

  1. Paragraph 1:  *Write a sentence that tells one reason to support your opinion about something that you think could be a positive change at Suamico. Then explain that reason!

  1. Paragraph 2: State another reason to support your opinion about something that you think could be a positive change at Suamico. Then explain that reason

4. Read over your work when you’re done.  You do NOT need to submit it to SeeSaw until the final day/part of writing (Thursday).

***Use this Opinion Writing Resources for 2nd Grade for all of the videos, charts, and examples we’ve used so far for learning about Opinion Writing!

Reading: Author’s Craft (Part 2)
Today you will continue paying attention to what the author is doing on the page… the author’s craft

1. Watch the video and listen as Mrs. Bender explains two more ways that authors use words in a special way to make their stories even better.

2. Today when you read in your series book…
  • Notice places where the author uses literary language and remember to think, “What does this really mean?”
  • Pay attention to punctuation and special print the author uses to bring the story to life
  • Use a Post-it note to flag the author’s craft that you notice.

3. Take a picture of some of the literary language and special print that you noticed and submit it to SeeSaw.
