Reading: 
Session 5:  Series Book Readers Use What They Know about the Characters to Predict

*When readers know a character really well, the way they know their best friend or someone in their family, they can guess what the character will do next.

1. Click on the link below and read the gray pages. Watch the video on the second gray slide for today’s reading lesson:

2. When you read today, as experts of characters, you want to…
Use all that you know about characters to predict what they will do next.
Write your predictions on Post-it notes
Continue to ask “Why?” questions about the characters, especially when they do something that you didn’t predict.

*If you finish reading your first book in your series, feel free to move on to your next book.
Remember, our focus is on gathering things we notice about our star character across books in a series to understand them better!

Math:
Finish Unit 6 Lesson 7: Discuss 3-Digit Addition

1. Today you will complete math workbook pages 331 and 332 on your own. Show your work! 
*If you are having troubles with solving the problems, be sure to look back on the videos from yesterday or Monday, which explain how to solve 3-digit addition. 

2. Submit page 331 to SeeSaw. You do not need to submit the picture on p 332.

** If you do not find your answer in the puzzle, your answer might not be correct**

Writing: 
Opinion Writing

**Keep in mind that we have only a few weeks left that we will focus on Opinion Writing.  Your writing should be improving. Teachers will be recording your progress in writing for your Progress Report at the end of the year.  This will also be shared with next year’s teacher.

(*HInt: Please be sure to watch the videos to help you make progress!) 

Today’s focus is on the Ending and polishing your writing so that it is your best piece of opinion writing yet!  (Hint: It must have all the parts!)

1.Watch the video of Miss Mikle teaching you the difference between Weak and Awesome Endings!

2. This week you’ve been writing your opinion to this question:
What book or series do you think other 2nd Graders “Must Read”?

**Reread what you’ve written for your beginning and middle.  

3.Write your ending.  Remember, it should be one or more sentences that brings your piece of writing to a close.  Do this by restating your point of view in some way with a final thought or feeling

4.Polish your piece of writing!  Remember, this should be  your Best piece of opinion writing yet! Use the OREO format checklist below to make sure you included ALL the parts of opinion writing
*Reread your writing carefully to catch mistakes in capitalization, punctuation, and spelling! 

5. Share your opinion writing with me on SeeSaw. I can’t wait to read it!

Double-Stuffed OREO Format for Opinion Writing: 

Beginning:

____Do you have a Hook or Lead sentence before your opinion statement? 

____Do you have a sentence stating your opinion
Middle:

____Do you have a sentence that gives a reason

____Do you have a sentence that explains that reason? 

____Do you have a sentence that gives a second reason

____Do you have a sentence that explains that reason? 
End:
____Did you bring your piece of writing to a close by restating your opinion with a final thought or feeling sentence? 

Bonus:  
_____Did you use cool transition words to connect the parts and help the piece flow? 


***You should have at least 7 sentences!
