Candy Corn Bandit

Our Halloween has certainly been off to an interesting start! We had planned to do a fun math activity with candy corn this morning. When we went to go get our jar, it was MISSING! In it's place was a package with a work book and a clue. The clue led us on a wild scavenger hunt all of the school. We had to use context clues, read between the lines, make inferences and be detectives. In the end, we found our jar of candy corn... right where we left it! Will we ever find out who took it?! Check out SeeSaw to read each student's Book Creator re-tell of the scavenger hunt and their best guesses as to who took it!'

Fall Celebration

Our Fall Celebration is coming up this Thursday, October 31st. I am including a copy of the original letter sent home. I appreciate all of you who have offered to bring something in or do a craft. We are looking forward to a great time! Please also remember that all family members are invited to join our celebration! If you forgot what you signed up to bring, please send me an e-mail and I can happily remind you. :) Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

*A few parents have asked about allergies in our classroom. I appreciate that! We DO have one GLUTEN allergy. Thank you!!

Home Project

Be sure to check your child’s folder tonight for a fun homework activity! It is due next Monday, but can be returned at any time before that. As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns!

Reading

In Reader's Workshop, the 2nd graders are working hard! They are continuing to grow and have begun to really look at the whole word while reading. They are focusing in on looking at ending and beginnings of words. In small groups, we are also working on our re-telling skills by looking at the characters, setting, beginning, middle and end. At home, be sure to have your child practice their re-tell skills by asking them to tell you what the important events of the story were in order.

As a reminder, also be sure to check out the "pages" on the left side of our blog. Be sure to also check out our new read-aloud for snack time on the "Books We've Read" page!

Exciting News!!

We have exciting news to share... We FILLED our Compliment Jar!!

After filling our jar, the 2nd graders were able to create a list of ideas for a full-class reward and vote. They chose to watch a movie in their pajamas together! We are working out the details of this and the movie we will watch. We are hoping to be able to do this soon, so stay tuned for more updates and information! :)

Reading

In reading, the 2nd graders have been working hard on using all of the strategies and tips they have learned about this year so far. This week, I spotted the kiddos building their reading stamina, using "Stop and Jots" to jot down their ideas, thoughts and questions while reading, and re-telling with their reading partners. They are doing a great job!

Happy Birthday!

On Monday, we celebrated this sweet boy's birthday! Happy Birthday, Ephram! :)

Cherry Pie

Wow! Ephram did it again! He is our 4-Time Cherry Pie Champ! We think we might have to get him into a big spelling bee so we can cheer him on as a class!
