Updates

2nd Grade Reminders and Updates:

*Our October Scholastic orders are due this Friday, October 11th.

*Our "Oh, How Things Have Changed" interviews for Social Studies are also do this Friday, October 11th.

*Our "Fall Celebration" will take place on Thursday, October 31st from 2:25-3:25 pm. A letter with more detailed information will be coming home soon. In the meantime, if you would like to volunteer to bring a sweet treat, salty snack, healthy snack, juice, cups, plates or napkins, please let me know. We are also looking for someone to volunteer planning and organizing a game and someone to plan and organize a craft. Please let me know if you are interested in doing either of these things.

*As the weather continues to fluctuate, I appreciate you sending your child to school with layers. Our classroom often ranges from REALLY warm, to kinda chilly all within one week. I would also recommend sending your child to school with light gloves and a light hat.

In math, the 2nd graders are continuing to work on "Math Mountains." They know that the total goes on the top and the addends go on the bottom. They are also working on making at least 4 equations, including both addition and subtraction, for each math mountain. We are also continuing to work on different strategies for adding and subtracting. At home, you can help your child by practicing his or her facts with them.

Our reading groups are continuing to do well! The 2nd graders are excited to come and read with me and are doing a nice job with their books. Please remember to read these books each night at home with your child and send them back to school each day so we can meet during group to re-read or get new books to take home. :) As always, please do not hesitate to contact me with questions or concerns!

Reading Groups

We have officially started our Guided Reading groups! You should see a bag with your child's name on it and a book inside coming home either tonight or tomorrow night. This book should be read nightly to help with repetition, fluency and comprehension. Depending on the book, it will come home with your child between 2-7 nights.  I would greatly appreciate you taking the time to listen to your child read aloud and praise them for their growth. This will help build their confidence and love of reading.  As the books become longer (chapter books), they might come home for longer stretches of time. Please help your child remember to bring this bag and book home and back to school each and every day. As always, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.
