What is Pitch?
When you hear the word “pitch” what does it make you think of?
(Pitching a baseball? Pitching an apple core into a garbage can?  Pitching a tent?)

Watch the Discovery Ed. video clip to find out what “pitch” has to do with sound.
Keep a notebook /or paper handy to jot notes.  (Hint: You should be able to explain
what pitch is!)

Do you know where your vocal cords are?  Place 3 fingers across the front of your neck
and hum.  You can feel your vocal cords vibrating. Keeping your fingers on your neck,
whisper the sentence, “Good Morning!”  You should not have felt any vibrations.

The video clip below shows what your vocal cords really look like when you talk.  You will
see changes in the vibrations of the vocal cords when they are making high and low pitch
sounds.  Explain what you notice!
Feel free to click on the links below for more examples of pitch.
