You have been working on producing one high quality piece of writing this week. So far, you’ve written the beginning and middle. Today, I want you to: 1. Reread what you’ve written so far. You can make changes or work on correcting any spelling errors you notice. 2. Today, you will write the ending of your writing piece. Do this by restating your point of view again in some way with a final thought or feeling. 3. When you finish writing your ending, use the OREO format checklist below to make sure you included all parts in your writing. 4. Then, check your writing for correct capitalization, punctuation and spelling. 5. Last, share your writing with me on SeeSaw. I can’t wait to read your writing! **Double-Stuffed OREO Format for Opinion Writing: Beginning: ____Do you have a Hook or Lead sentence before your opinion statement? ____Do you have a sentence stating your opinion? Specials and Extras

Hi Everyone!
A few families have reached out looking for additional learning opportunities during our Digital Learning days. First and foremost, don't forget about the specialist page! :) As a reminder, here is a copy of the link to their page:

Also, I have added an extra "page" to our blog with a few crafts and fun learning opportunities that I would have done with the 2nd graders this year in school had it not been moved to a digital format. Please feel free to take advantage of them at home. Again, this is completely optional and has no timeline. A few of the activities require printers or construction paper. Feel free to be creative with that if you'd like. Enjoy!

Also, don't forget about the additional pages that offer at home-home learning, as well. You could check out the math games and math songs pages, or the snow day activities.

4-23-20 Writing (Phonics!)

Today for writing, we have a phonics lesson! We are going to review strategies for "Building Bigger, Longer, More Complex Words." 1. Watch the videos from Mrs. Bender. (For the 2nd video, please see our blog.) 2. After watching the video, look over one of your opinion writing pieces and check the spelling of the bigger, longer and more complex words that you used. If you got the spelling correct, that's great! If you notice an error, try and fix it. Good writers work on their spelling and sentence structure several times before calling their work "done." :) After you find a word, send a picture of it back to me! :)

4-22-20 and 4-23-20 Optional Science

**Hi 2nd graders and families!
I am SO sorry that this didn't post! I made it last night and then my internet must have went out as it was posting and I didn't notice until I saw some messages from you. That being said, we will keep this assignment open for the remainder of today *and* tomorrow. There will not be a new assignment for Science tomorrow.

1. Watch this video of Jersey Teaching Sound before you begin!
2. Use this Homemade Instrument Score Sheet to help you prepare the demonstration of your instrument.
3. Practice your demonstration several times! (Be sure to explain how your instrument changes pitch and volume.  Making up a little tune to play with your instrument would help us to hear the multiple sounds it can make.
4. Have someone videotape your demonstration with your iPad.
5. Upload your demonstration video to SeeSaw when you are finished.

I can’t wait to see your fantastic instruments and demonstrations!!!

What is Volume?

Think of times when you’ve heard the word “volume”.  (That woman’s hair has a lot of volume! We have a volume of pencils at the start of the year.  What is the volume of a cube?)

Watch the Discovery Ed. video clip to find out what “volume” has to do with sound.  Keep a notebook /or paper handy to jot notes.  (Hint: You should be able to explain what volume is!)

What is Pitch?
When you hear the word “pitch” what does it make you think of?
(Pitching a baseball? Pitching an apple core into a garbage can?  Pitching a tent?)

Watch the Discovery Ed. video clip to find out what “pitch” has to do with sound.
Keep a notebook /or paper handy to jot notes.  (Hint: You should be able to explain
what pitch is!)

Do you know where your vocal cords are?  Place 3 fingers across the front of your neck
and hum.  You can feel your vocal cords vibrating. Keeping your fingers on your neck,
whisper the sentence, “Good Morning!”  You should not have felt any vibrations.

The video clip below shows what your vocal cords really look like when you talk.  You will
see changes in the vibrations of the vocal cords when they are making high and low pitch
sounds.  Explain what you notice!
Feel free to click on the links below for more examples of pitch.

4-14-20 Reading

Organizing Goal Clubs Today I want to teach you that reading club members work together, sharing what they know with each other and making plans to reach their goals. You can gather tools around your house, make your own chart and make a plan to work together toward your goals. Think… “What do I want to accomplish? What will I need to do this? What will happen first, then second, then third?" Today, I want you to choose family members or friends who are around you and are willing to support you and your reading goal. This person or people will be known as our “Reading Goal Club.”
